No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency

I was attracted to the premise of this book, that it is about the first detective agency owned by a black female in Botswana. The character of Precious Ramotswe is hugely likeable and we are soon swept into her life story, and her clever ways of solving crimes and misdemeanours.  While the crimes are familiar, missing children, infidelity, and false insurance claims, the African setting adds a unique flavour, and the reader becomes fascinated with Ramotswe's instincts and methodology.  Reading more like half-hour TV episodes than a novel, this book is entertaining, and I look forward to seeing the TV series at some stage. Apparently it is very good!

My rating:
****
